I believe the federal government needs to focus on the root cause of why people are risking their lives to come to America. In my opinion, they need income.
Northern and Southern border safety is a top priority for our district. But the conversation has to move beyond the political theater of the border itself, and toward the employment market that pulls people here in the first place.
I feel that immigration is a strength of our country, not a weakness. A strong border and smarter legal immigration policies do not have to be mutually exclusive. I disagree that President Trump's border wall has and will ever be effective, just as I agree that he was right to discontinue former President Biden's asylum laws.
In Congress, I pledge to work to create a points-based immigration system similarly used by countries such as Canada and Australia, while also bolstering our border enforcement agencies to be better staffed, trained, and supplied.
